This foundation is making a difference by serving children in rural areas of mexico by doing the following:

  • Serves single moms, widows, and struggling families with homes
  • 100% of the money raised goes towards service & construction projects
  • Recipients are actively engaged in serving their Faith and community actively engaged and actively “paying it forward”
  • Helping kids and families who have never received christmas gifts in their lives.
  • Provide backpacks of school supplies and 5,400 lbs of clothing to destitute children and families

The Service Legacy Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2008 and is led by W. Buck Mendenhall and Steven Orrock, along with a supporting staff of approx. 35 members. The focus of the foundation has been to support humanitarian efforts in Central and South America, with a primary focus on the Homes for Families projects. To date 8 homes have been constructed, including 6 from the ground up. This project involves individuals and families from the US, as well as residents of of the communities that we serve, working together to build homes for impoverished families who are living in sub-standard conditions.

Since Christmas of 2004, we have been putting together groups of volunteers that have been going down to the Mexican Provinces of Quintana Roo and Yucatan as well as The Dominican Republic to help build/improve homes for needy families. We initially were looking for a project that would accomplish 3 things: First, to help families get out of dirty, unsafe palapas (homes) and into safe, clean homes who could otherwise not afford to do so. Second, to provide much needed items of clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, toys and shoes to those much less fortunate than ourselves. Finally, give youth from our area an opportunity to gain from an experience where they sacrifice something of their own (their Christmas) and serve others in a unique and cultural environment.

The current project plans for the foundation include working with impoverished communities in the town of Tizimin in the Yucatan Province of Mexico. We will be going there this year to perform service through building and repairing homes, providing donated clothing, and distributing humanitarian kits as well.
